Speech pathology services provide assessment and treatment for:

  • speech sound delay: articulation, phonology, childhood apraxia of speech (dyspraxia)

  • early language development: late talkers

  • understanding language and following directions

  • literacy:reading, writing, spelling

  • auditory memory and listening

  • stuttering

  • voice problems

  • selective mutism

  • autism

Initial Consultation 

The first appointment is for one hour and allows the clinician to discuss background information about your child as well as to screen your child’s current speech and language skills. For younger children screening may involve observing the child playing with his/her parent. For older children the clinician may administer screening tests. If no other assessment consultations are required a one page summary of the session will be provided. An initial consultation is usually sufficient for the assessment of:

           ·     Stuttering

           ·     Articulation (Speech)

           ·     Straight forward expressive                            language delay

 

Comprehensive Assessment 

An initial one and a half hour session will be scheduled if deemed necessary by the clinician. Further hourly sessions may be required to complete the assessment however the number of additional consultations required will vary depending on the child’s age and the type of communication difficulty.Two consultations are usually required for the assessment of:

          ·      Receptive and Expressive                            Language Disorders

          ·      Speech Sound Disorders

          ·      Autism-Spectrum Disorders

          ·      Literacy Learning Difficulties

 

A comprehensive report is provided within the cost of the assessment.

Therapy

​​Frequency and duration of therapy appointments are determined in consultation with parents and are offered as 30, 45 or 60 minute sesisons. Depending on your child's difficulties and the level of support you desire, appointments may be scheduled weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Parents are essential and integral to treatment with continued training and education provided during each session.

Home activities are also supplied in a personalised folder with additional therapy materials loaned.

SERVICES

Preschool/school visit

May be required as part of the assessment process with an additional fee payable, however phone consultations with educational or medical professionals are provided at no extra charge. These visits aim to gather further information regarding your child’s communication abilities in school as well as providing the teacher with techniques and strategies for integrating speech and language goals within the classroom and playground environments.
